Journalism in Dufferin is at Risk!

Local news in Dufferin will look a lot different than it does today. Josh MacEwen examines Torstar Local and how this initiative, and similar ones to it, could lead to the degradation of local journalism. With your support, Dufferin News will make sure journalism survives even if the local outlets go away. Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel and follow us on social media so you are ready for our first story on June 1st, 2020!

If TorStar Local becomes the norm for small town journalism, and the parent companies of our local print outlets decide it is no longer feasible to continue with their traditional business model, it’s quite likely the only local presence these corporations will have in Dufferin is a Community Coordinator. All of the local journalists hired will be on a freelance basis. If this is the future, we do not need TorStar. We can do it ourselves, and we’ll do it better. That’s why we created Dufferin News.
