Dufferin’s Spotlight Production launches Online Community News Program

ORANGEVILLE, ON May 25th, 2020 – Josh MacEwen, owner of Dufferin’s Spotlight Production, is launching a local news program. The online news program will feature news and special interest stories all focused on Dufferin County as well as how national or provincial issues affect our community. Dufferin News is another program under the Dufferin’s Spotlight production company that also offers Dufferin’s Spotlight podcasts focusing on local business.
MacEwen has completed an online course with The Young Turks (TYT) who offered free training as part of a pilot project to help increase local news coverage. MacEwen applied for the course and was one of 15 selected from 3000 applicants. The goal of the course is to help train media enthusiasts increasing their video production skills to produce news stories.
“I was completely shocked that I was chosen to participate in this training course. I have a passion for local news and am really motivated to get Dufferin News up and running. It will be another alternative for a credible news source in our community,” said MacEwen. “The goal of TYT Academy is to train and empower individuals around the globe to report on their local communities by teaching them the basics of video journalism. We are very excited to see the program go into effect and our graduates starting to produce great local news content.” – said CEO & TYT Founder Cenk Uygur. Through this training, MacEwen is now able to create digital-first stories and promote local news coverage that is relevant to all generations of Dufferin County.
Dufferin News will broadcast stories on their YouTube channel making it easy to access for everyone. Current residents or anyone with an interest in Dufferin County issues will be able to view news stories for free, no registration required. Dufferin’s Spotlight is an independent company and community-focused organization. The video component of the news stories will enhance the ability to accurately portray current issues.
